A clear view of the unobstructed beach behind Cheeseburger-In-Paradise was the result of removing a seaward portion of the building during the renovation and repair of this popular restaurant in the heart of Lahaina, Maui. The adaptive realignment of the building’s footprint by removing portions that were in harm’s way is an example of implementing managed retreat during the redevelopment process.
